Over the course of this semester I have gained much more knowledge about the Broadcast industry than I knew before. I have been able to work on an experience many different things over this semester. One thing I really enjoyed was filming sporting events. They were fun because you got to see angles that worked, angles that didn't, ways you should film certain sports, and also the idea of teamwork because while you were filming, someone had to be writing down times of when things happened, who scored, and what time they appeared on the video. Another thing I also enjoyed over the semester was being able to help with the sports show. My biggest dream is to be a sports broadcaster, so that is the area in which I found the most interest. I was able to learn how to run the teleprompter, as well as watch how to run the cameras, and audio. It was awesome to see it right there in front of you and be able to say you helped. I also have helped with Interlachen portraits, and been able to attend some Interlachen meetings to see how that aspect works as well. I also get to say that I helped with the new studio, because I got to help mud the set (and I did a pretty good job if I do say so myself). The thing I love about the Broadcast Industry is that it is really open for any ideas you have. If you come up with an idea for a show or paper you can just grab some people to help, pick it up, run with it and see where it goes. The Broadcast Industry is a very competitive industry it seems like, but at the same time it always seems as though there is an opportunity available for you to pick up. I have enjoyed working on many different things this semester and learning so much more about the broadcast industry. It really does have so many different things packed into one, from speaking skills, to copy writing, to video, to pictures, to editing. I feel as though this industry is the most complex because it involves so many different things. The men and women of this industry control what people watch by making it interesting, bringing people in, and sharing with them what they want to see and hear. A sports broadcaster on the sidelines of the NFL or MLB is what I most aspire to be and I feel as though I am already taking the steps needed to reach that goal. I am learning from my peers, my teachers, and by just getting experience in the different areas and aspects of this field. I have already learned so so much throughout my first semester here, and I can’t wait to learn much much more. I think the most important thing that I have learned this semester though is to not wait until the end to get your hours!!!
