My dream since I was a little girl has been to follow in the footsteps of Erin Andrews. I would love nothing more than to be on the sidelines of the College football, NFL, and MLB games reporting for ESPN. As we all know things don’t get handed to you these days, you have to work your way up and that is what Erin did. Erin was born in Maine, but moved to Tampa as a little girl when her father Steven Andrews, a TV journalist and six-time Emmy Award winner, began working as an investigative reporter for WFLA-TV. Erin attended Bloomingdale High School where she was a cheerleader as well as a member of student government and the National Honor Society. She then attended the University of Florida where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and a member of the Florida Gators Dazzlers dance team. She graduated from the University of Florida in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Telecommuncations. After graduation, Erin joined Fox Sports Florida as a freelance reporter. From 2001-2002 she worked with the Tampa Bay Lightning reporter for the Sunshine Network. From 2002-2004 she covered the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Thrashers, and the Atlanta Hawks for the Turner South network as a studio host and reporter. In May of 2004 she began working for ESPN as a reporter for ESPN’s National Hockey Night. She also reported for the College World Series, Little League World Series, and the Great Outdoor Games. Once she got her foot in the door she also served as a sideline reporter for ESPN College Football Saturday Primetime and Big Ten college basketball games. In 2005 her job expanded even more to include sideline reporting for ESPN College Football Thursday Primetime and Major League Baseball. From 2008-2010 she also reported for ESPN’s and ABC’s live coverage of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Outside of reporting she has been a guest on several talk shows to include The Oprah Winfrey Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. In 2010, she was a contestant in ABC’s Dancing With The Stars where she placed third out of 11 contestants. It was announced on January 13th of this year that she signed a deal with Reebok to be a promoter for its ZigTech Brand. Unfortunately, a conflict arose when she was reporting on the sidelines of the 2011 Rose Bowl two weeks later and noted that the Texas Christian Players were slipping do to their Nike shoes. Due to the conflict of interest, ESPN announced that they are requiring Andrews to end her endorsement with Reebok by the end of this year. Andrews is currently the host of the first hour of ESPN’s College Gameday on ESPNU and has been a Good Morning America correspondent on ABC since 2010. Erin also does charitable work on the side for numerous organizations, one in which she co-hosted the Music Builds: CMT Disaster Relief Concert to raise money for the American Red Cross after the April 27th tornadoes in the southern United States. Erin is such an inspiration for me and to be in her shoes one day would be the greatest gift of a lifetime. I just have to keep pushing forward and working hard and I know one day I can make it there.
